This position is for a highly motivated Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team of 10-15 software engineers whose charter is to design and develop embedded platform software, including software that interfaces with hardware. Aircraft supported cover a wide range of military and commercial fixed wing, rotary wing, and unmanned platforms. Cutting edge technologies include multi-core safety critical processing, and machine learning platforms.
The team’s charter includes customizing and integrating OS components (e.g. LynxOS-178, VxWorks, Linux), designing and developing device drivers, board support packages, network protocols, boot code, libraries, and applications.
This role involves project leadership over the entire life cycle including bids, project management, design, requirements capture, coding, integration, verification, cybersecurity, and DO-178 certification. Responsibilities include technical leadership and accountability for team and project performance. The role requires strong leadership skills, a passion for coaching and mentoring, systems and software engineering skills, masterful communication skills, familiarity with software development tools, critical and innovative thinking, strategic planning, and an ability to build and motivate a team.
The role also includes administrative leadership tasks including staffing, hiring, interfacing with suppliers, personnel development plans, performance reviews, salary planning, and policy and procedure adherence.
Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline
Experience with DO-178B/C process and certification
Experience developing or integrating low-level (platform) software
Experience with hardware and systems engineering
Experience with project management, bidding, planning, and risk management
Experience leading teams and mentoring
