Job Summary

The Rockwell Collins Airborne Navigation Engineering Department is in an exciting growth period and in need of a highly qualified hardware project engineer that would support and lead the design and development of high performance airborne navigation products. Our team is looking for self-motivated, highly qualified Senior Hardware Project Engineer to plan, organize, and execute Airborne GPS and Navigation development projects. The successful candidate will be involved in the entire design process from bid and proposal through production including requirements capture, design and layout, integration, verification, transition to manufacturing, collateral support and customer interface.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serve as project engineer, coordinating the efforts of the hardware engineers to meet project schedule milestones and budget allocations

  • Track and analyze earned value reporting metrics to monitor project execution and performance to plan, understanding both technical and programmatic impacts

  • Support proposals, generate detailed cost estimates for bidding purposes and develop project plans for new and/or changes to existing products

  • Engineering liaison to other organizations such as manufacturing, program management, customers, and external suppliers

  • Manage scope, schedule, budget and risk for assigned projects

  • Interpretation of technical information and capture of design requirements

  • Perform detailed analysis and tradeoff studies of various design concepts

  • Lead product design verification and qualification testing activities

  • Prepare and conduct technical briefings and presentations

  • Considered main engineering focal point for product development activities

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.

  • Strong experience with project engineering/project leadership

  • Strong development experience with product development, requirements capture and documentation

  • Extensive experience with leading multi-disciplined teams

  • Strong leadership skills interfacing with key decision makers in other shared services, PM/PLM, and BD, to develop and execute successful product development strategies.

  • Strong communication skills, able to efficiently and effectively tailor information and presentation for the intended audience, to senior management or customer executives, laterally to peers in their working triads, and to program team members, at the level of detail necessary.

  • Strong team building skills, perceptive of team needs and building a culture of trust and respect throughout the team.

  • Strong development planning and execution skills required

  • Must have demonstrated successful execution of integrated project management, technical consistent process, earned value, and risk management on multiple programs.

  • Proficiency in all aspects of MS Project

Additional Experience a plus:

  • Knowledge of Aircraft Navigation and GPS products
