Job Summary

Become part of the growing Commercial Systems Engineering ASIC/FPGA team. Rockwell Collins is seeking a Sr Electrical Engineer to lead a team of engineers in developing and verifying AEH products. This position is for a highly experienced, highly motivated Electrical or Computer Engineer that will be involved in the design, implementation, verification and integration of a wide variety of high-performance digital systems that incorporate ASICs, FPGAs, and SoPCs into a product solution. As an engineer in this organization, you will be employing best practice design methodologies supporting our next generation of Avionics Products, in addition to numerous products enterprise-wide.

Job Responsibilities

  • Requirements capture and decomposition.

  • ASIC/FPGA/SoPC digital architecture and design.

  • RTL coding and simulation in VHDL, Verilog, or System Verilog.

  • Recommend new tools and practices for continuous improvement in the group’s ASIC/FPGA design flow.

  • Creation and oversight of DO-254 certification artifacts for Airborne Electronic Hardware (AEH).

  • Provide guidance or mentor, when necessary, a team of engineers with a variety of skills and backgrounds.

  • Perform the duties of a project engineer.

  • Bid creation and support RFIs and RFPs.

  • Manage scope, schedule, and budget for AEH development.

  • Communicate well with a wide variety of individuals including Engineering, Program Management, internal leadership and customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience using FPGA vendor specific tools (e.g. Vivado, Quartus, and Libero).

  • Experience using HDL simulation tools such as Questasim.

  • Experience with data interfaces (PCIe, DDR, Ethernet, CDN, ARINC-429, etc.).

  • Experience with implementing solutions that contain 3rd party IP.

  • Experience in creating timing constraints and achieving timing closure within vendor tools (e.g. Vivado, Quartus, Libero, Primetime).

  • Experience with clock domain crossing techniques and tools (e.g. Questa CDC)

  • Experience with Linux (or Unix), scripting, C/C++, Python, and/or Perl.

  • Familiarity with revision control concepts and tools (e.g. Subversion, JIRA).

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, as part of a team of engineers with a variety of skills and backgrounds, matrixed into projects with aggressive schedules and frequent milestones.

  • Able to meet cost, schedule, and performance objectives.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline

  • Willingness to travel (domestic and international <10%).

Desired skills of a successful candidate:

  • Experience with networking standards including AFDX and 802.3.

  • Experience with SoC/SoPC based designs including ARM Core architectures.

  • Experience with DO-254 design assurance activities for ASIC, FPGA, and/or SoPC developments.

  • Experience with OVM/UVM Methodology.

  • Familiarity with best practice chip-level verification techniques and languages (e.g. constrained random, functional coverage, SystemVerilog).

  • Ability to troubleshoot Design for Test (DFT) and manufacturability issues

  • Prior experience with developing in an Agile environment and knowledge of the Agile principles.

  • Prior design engineering experience with Avionics products and understanding of manufacturing processes and product life cycle support is desired.

  • Project management and team leadership experience.

  • Experience interacting with domestic and international partners.

  • Basics of risk management (identify, quantify, and mitigate risks).
