The Sr Software Developer role includes, but is not limited to, development and sustainment of software programs related to the development of training and publications products. Researches, designs, develops, tests, debugs, deploys, and maintains application software and applies a systematic, disciplined, quantifiable approach to the construction, analysis, or management of software. Involved in planning of system and assists with system design. Analyzes complex business problems to be solved with automated systems and provides technical expertise in identifying, evaluating and developing systems and procedures that are cost effective and meet user requirements. Designs and builds changes, extensions and enhancements to existing application programs and reports. Supports data migration, data conversion, data loading, and performance improvement of information. Designs and develops integrations between applications using application programming interfaces. Prepares operating instructions and compiles documentation of program development. Provides patches and upgrades to existing systems. Works with users to support business applications, and investigating operational problems/system requirements. Solves user inquiries that arise during day-to-day operation and documents system changes and uses independent judgment to make decisions in day-to-day job responsibilities the majority of the time under general supervision.

Job Responsibilities

  • Serving as project or technical lead for moderately complex projects with varying degrees of flexibility for approach.

  • Provide technical direction/guidance to other team members.

  • Reviewing moderate software defects, business trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements and recommend new approaches, tools, techniques that drive continuous improvements in software development processes.

  • Working on assigned tasks under moderate to indirect supervision.

  • Having moderate degree of freedom to perform assigned tasks within schedule and cost.

  • Estimating project resource requirements for multi-developer projects.

  • Mentoring, guiding, assigning and tracking tasks for other team members.

  • Develop/modify programs based on functional specification, investigate and understand new technologies, conduct unit-tests, code review and performance monitoring.

  • Translate business needs into technical requirements. Has system-wide responsibility on complex projects and components.

  • Provide limited exploratory/discovery consulting services to internal customers.

  • Assisting with the transfer of knowledge of technical skills.

  • Contributing to the development and analysis of software requirements capture in area of domain expertise. Able to identify cross-functional deficiencies in requirements.

  • Participating in cross-functional team efforts in definition, integration, verification and validation for products and sub-systems of moderate to high complexity. Perform debugging and integration of software components as part of the solution delivery lifecycle process.

Technical Skills:

  • XML, XSLT, XSL, HTML, and CSS development experience.

  • Java / C# / VB or other object-oriented programming experience.

  • MSAccess Database and SQL experience.

  • Proficient with modern software development best practices and configuration management tools.

  • Ability to develop and troubleshoot program code.

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of military writing and training specifications.

  • Proficiency with Visual Studio and / or other development frameworks.

  • Proficiency with Arbortext Epic Editor or other XML structured authoring environment.

  • Python scripting.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline or in the absence of a degree six years of related experience.

Must have the ability to obtain an active US DoD Security Clearance
