JOB TITLE: Finance Intern


RESPONSIBLE TO: Finance Manager

HOURS: 37.5 hours per week. Hours of work will be 8:30am – 5:15pm Monday to Thursday and 8:30am – 1:00pm Friday. The post holder may be required at times to work outside his/her normal working hours for the effective performance of the duties of the post

Reporting to the Finance Manager the two individuals will work in the Finance department gaining experience within the Costing team and/or the General Accounting team. Routine tasks within General Accounting include but are not limited to intercompany invoice reconciliations, processing of credit memos, balance sheet reconciliations, treasury, fixed asset reconciliations, statutory returns and cash management. Routine tasks within Costing include but are not limited to weekly reporting to business unit managers/directors, production and review of manufacturing accounting reports, review and investigation of variances, setting up standard costs and month-end duties.

Please note that we are recruiting for 2 x Finance Interns, one will work in the costing team and the other will work in the general accounting team. The successful candidates will be matched to the most appropriate role throught the selection process.

Key Responsibilities

General Accounting
  • Review of intercompany reconciliations and work with relevant sites to resolve over 90 days outstanding items

  • Process AR credit memos ensuring all necessary approvals are attained

  • Ensure AR invoices are sent out on a timely basis

  • Monthly reconciliation of fixed asset register and maintain, reconcile and report on capitalised tools

  • Monthly reconciliation of various balance sheet accounts

  • Treasury duties to include cash tracking/forecasting.

  • Assist in the yearly statutory reporting process

  • Produce utilisation reports ensuring all hours are captured and costed appropriately

  • Produce labour variance reports ensuring large variances are explained

  • Review and authorise stock reclassification forms

  • Produce revenue and material cost reports

  • Track work orders ensuring all variances are investigated and cleared before closing

  • Process month-end journals as required

Essential Criteria

  • Studying towards a third level qualification in a relevant discipline such as Accountancy or Business Studies which includes a significant accounting component

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office.

  • Excellent Communication Skills.

  • Experience of working within a team environment.

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience of working in a Finance Department.
