As a leader in the aerospace industry, we are growing rapidly and have a number of exciting positions available right now, including a Numerical Methods and Simulation Engineer in our Oxygen & PSU business located in Lenexa, KS.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Numerical Methods and Simulation Engineer will be responsible for the planning and development of numerical methods and oversight of the suppliers involved in subcontracted model validation services. The incumbent will perform decision supporting assignments usually representing a significant portion of a larger project and will select engineering techniques to solve problems and make design recommendations. Furthermore, he/she will develop Numerical Methods and Simulation solutions portfolio with focus on practical problem solving and numerical receipt development, supporting our vision of first pass qualification and 100% production yield of safety critical aircraft systems.
Development of Numerical Methods portfolio for usage within oxygen and PSU group
Defining appropriate modeling approach for identified design and legacy problems
Mentor colleagues both in CAE technical questions and how to interpreted results
Perform CAE analyses (including data capture), build Finite Element and CFD models, set up simulations, exercise judgement, evaluate reports and presents results
Perform simulations and analysis to guide the product development team forward
Educate and support Design and Development engineers in Numerical Methods
Support all business functions with numerical engineering data sets (esp. engineering, operations, QA)
Develop appropriate multi-physics simulations for new projects.
Perform CAE based root cause analysis of field issues. Analysis of field quality data and develop numerical/statistical methods that will pro-actively mitigate future quality escapes
Participate in preparation of appropriate documentation for assigned projects.
Ensures successful completion of the assigned project phase within the budgeted time and cost constraints.
Participates in defining engineering approaches, reviews and customer meetings.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills (regularly present to VP and executive VP level audience)
Cover the capacity gaps in documentation for delivery milestones.
Master of Science degree in Mathematics/Mathematical Physics/Mechanical/Aerospace Engineering or alternatively Bachelor of Science in above mentioned disciplines with equivalent experience.
Strong numerical methods background – at least 4 terms of advanced lectures on Methods in Applied Mathematics and Equations of Mathematical Physics
Experience performing Finite Element simulations for plastic and composite components.
Experience performing Computational Fluid Dynamic simulations for compressible gas flow.
Experience of CAE analysis and model validation
Skills with FEA software, CFD software, , FLOWMASTER, Matlab
PhD with specialization in Fluid Dynamics or Mathematical Physics
Familiarity with Fortran/C Numerical Libraries (LAPACK , Sparse BLAS, etc.)
Experience with High Performance Cluster (HPC) Computing setup and batch programs execution
