Job Summary

The Sr Lead Test Engineer - Rail will be responsible for leading and managing system integration and acceptance testing of large scale transit and IT projects encompassing subsystems and components of Centralized Traffic Control, Passenger Information and Display Systems (PIDS), Data Warehouse, and Positive Train Control systems.

Job Responsibilities

  • Managing test program of a large and complex IT system.

  • Leading test team including remote team members.

  • Working with customer and vendors to design a complete test program.

  • Developing test plan for complete program integration inclusive of vendor supplied components and subsystems.

  • Evaluating vendor supplied test artifacts to ensure compliance with contract requirements and STCI quality standards.

  • Assign test tasks and responsibilities.

  • Provide test strategy, approach and design.

  • Participate in project milestone reviews.

  • Analyze system requirements.

  • Develop system test strategy, requirements, plans, test cases, test procedures and scripts.

  • Develop system test concepts.

  • Perform system testing and troubleshooting in internal and customer lab and field environments.

  • Assist in client's transition to new systems and technologies.

  • Create, update and execute manual and automated test procedures and test scripts.

  • Coach, mentor and evaluate test engineers on technical aspects

Basic Qualifications

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.

  • Five (5) or more years of experience:

  1. In testing large, distributed systems.

  2. In preparing system documentation, test plans, and test procedures.

  3. In application of structured systems engineering processes, including test planning and execution.

  • Three (3) or more years of experience :
  1. Managing large test programs.

  2. In a systems-level technical leadership position, and experience coordinating system integration or test.

  3. Working in large projects with multidisciplinary teams (communications, signals, locomotive systems, control centers, business operations, and data warehouse).

  • Experience in System and Software Engineering.

  • Experience with test automation.

  • Experience with Agile development methodology.

  • Familiarity with C/C++ and Java programming.

  • Strong understanding of testing technologies.

  • Experience testing in virtual environments.

  • Ability to work closely with clients at engineering and management levels with minimum supervision.

  • Experience presenting technical plans or speaking on technical topics to project teams, clients or other groups as required.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with ability to generate complex technical documents.

  • Ability to work on problems of diverse scope and multiple technologies.

  • Ability to work independently or with cross functional teams as required.

  • Experience working with tools such as requirements traceability, test planning, automated test execution, and configuration management.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).

  • Detail oriented.

The candidate must demonstrate:

  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and quickly adapt to schedule demands.

  • The ability to learn and adapt to new technologies along with attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and writing skills.

  • Proficiency in Windows and Unix/Linux environment.

  • Good problem solving capability.

  • The ability to work as part of a dynamic and skilled team.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience in the Rail/Transit industry.

  • Experience with Data Warehouse solutions.

  • Hands on experience with advanced technology railroad systems, such as communications systems, control centers, remote monitoring systems, or signal systems.

  • Hands on experience with SCADA systems.

  • Experience with test automation using TCL, Python, or Perl.

  • Experience with message-based systems testing.
