This position is for a highly motivated manager to lead a team of 10-15 software engineers whose charter is to design and develop embedded software for mission equipment for the Naval Air Systems Command post. This position is to lead a team focused on advancing technologies to expand capabilities and functionality of modern day and future weapons systems for our customers. The Support And Sustainment System (SASS) is a critical component of the Airborne Strategic Command, Control and Communications Program Office, whose mission is to enable survivable, endurable, reliable airborne command, control and communications.
Conduct project leadership over the entire life cycle including bids, project management, design, requirements capture, coding, integration, verification, and certification
Provide technical leadership and accountability for team and project performance
Demonstrate a passion for coaching and mentoring
Possess systems and software engineering skills, critical and innovative thinking, strategic planning, and an ability to build and motivate a team
Identify, recruit, retain, and develop engineering talent across the spectrum of entry-level to very experienced system engineers
Build and leverage networks within the department, within Rockwell Collins
Communicate well with a wide variety of individuals including Engineering, Program Management, internal leadership, and customers
Strives to spend 50% of week performing technical tasks and oversight. Remaining time spent on people management, schedules and/or budgets
Candidates must possess the following:
Candidate must hold or be capable of obtaining a U.S. DOD Security Clearance
Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline
Practical experience in all phases of pursuit, development, software integration and software test
Previous Software Manager, Software Lead or Software Project Engineer experience (minimum 5 years)
A successful candidate will possess the following preferred skills:
Experience in development of embedded (C++) or applications software (Java) to support military airborne platforms
Experience in virtual machines or database management
Direct experience in development of software bid and proposal efforts
Experience/knowledge with software development methods such as Iterative or Agile
Experience/knowledge of airborne communications systems (VLF, HF, UHF, V/UHF, and EHF) cryptographic units and standard airborne interfaces
