The successful applicant will utilize strong analytical abilities, an practical knowledge of commercial airliner avionics and instrumentation and significant commercial airliner pilot experience to provide Head-Up Guidance Systems, Portland and its customers with guidance and expertise through system development, flight test, certification and entry into service.
Significant domain knowledge and knowledge of products, systems and applicable regulatory requirements in assigned portfolio (e.g. avionics products). Will be considered a domain specialist.
Serve as a subject matter expert for the Control Laws & Guidance specialist domain.
Develop functional, interface and performance specifications for hardware and software implementation. Identify and document architecturally significant requirements and technical risk areas.
Provide input into technical proposal preparation and serve as the subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal and customer reviews.
Serve as the flight test and simulation based tuning lead for integration, verification and validation for products and sub-systems of moderate to high complexity.
Estimate, track, manage and report status relating to technical, cost, schedule, and risk performance for assigned scope of work which may span across multiple projects. Decisions may have major impact on cost, schedule, and technical performance.
Understand and utilize internal processes, methods and tools for systems development and documentation efforts. Develop and/or utilize prognostic metrics for system design and development. Review metrics and defects trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements. Recommend new approaches, tools and techniques that drive continuous improvement in systems development processes
Maintain awareness of technology within the domain or system and develop technology strategies for the domain or system. Provide inputs to technical & product roadmaps.
Mentors junior engineers in the utilization of the appropriate RC processes and tools during product development, thus increasing product quality and improving customer satisfaction.
Individual job duties may vary.
Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline. (Preference for Avionics focus)
Private Pilot's License with commercial pilot experience (ideally 10 plus years) on single aisle narrow body aircraft, medium business jets or larger.
Flight Test experience a bonus
